Working out on vacation

I recently received some bad news in relation to a planned holiday with family on a boat for a couple days. The boat owner informed us of significant damage to the boat from heavy rainfall and that repairs would not be complete in time for our scheduled trip. Why am I telling this story? We've tried to find an alternative vacation spot and it's been a nightmare! It's fully booked EVERYWHERE! The corona virus pandemic hasn't stopped people from going on vacation. For those with secured vacation plans and indeed those already on vacation I wanted to share some tips on working out on vacation. You can have fun and stay active for a dual benefit. Don't let a holiday interfere with your gains!

Workout tips:
  • If you're staying at a hotel and they happen to have a gym facility🏋🏿‍♂️ or a pool🏊🏿, you should make full use of it. 20 - 30 minutes is a reasonable amount of time to work out for.
  • Go for short runs🏃🏿‍♂️ around your hotel or beach resort (i.e. ≤5 kilometers). This will not only allow you to maintain your fitness but also further explore your holiday destination. Get out and get around, meet and greet others and just strive to have a sense of adventure! Why travel just to confine yourself to a room or shopping mall? Be an active tourist by soaking up the sights while breaking a sweat. Oh, and don't worry about getting lost because advanced GPS watches have a trackback function that'll lead you right back to your starting point.
  • Incorporate bodyweight exercises and circuits. 20 - 30 minutes of moderate to high intensity exercises is likely all you need to retain a decent baseline of fitness. Common examples of effective bodyweight exercises include push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, squats, lunges, burpees, and planks. With regards to bodyweight circuits I personally utilize and recommend the scientific bodyweight circuit called 'Seven (7)'. Whether you're an Apple or Android user the 7 app will be available for free download. Use it and try to bang out 3 circuits daily or every other day for maximum benefits.
  • If you like a drink🍻🥂🥃 and tend to overindulge you should read this blog on Fitness & Litness to help you manage it better.

If you do nothing but chilling, everything you've worked so hard for will start to disappear. Cardiovascular fitness declines after just a week of inactivity for the average athlete so you should keep yourself in motion to prevent this decline.

Dear Wife,
I'm pleased to report that I conquered the hills and heat of Siavonga during our most recent vacation! It's going to take a lot more than that to discourage the Roadrunner Zambia from working out on vacation! #IWalkTheTalk

Gosh I must say being around the " Road Runner " on holiday certainly did rub off on us. I agree when you say taking a jog or a walk gives you an opportunity to explore the place. We saw so many epic views during our short Jog.
